(Own photograph) Represents personalisation within key rings, presents given and used in the past with previous sets of keys (younger age). These are clearly personal because they contain the first initial of my name and also a shortened version of my name. Key rings tend to be inexpensive and therefore are often given as presents.
These are my flat keys which contain a key fob (allows access to the gates), a label which has my flat number written onto it, and also my own keyring which is a pencil drawing of a young orang-utan, therefore relating to myself because of my love for animals (and also pencil drawings) this therefore makes my keys stand out when searching in my bag.
This is a keyring from my parents car keys which is advertising motor point "car buying evolved". This is another form of how key rings can be used (as a form of marketing).
Key rings can also be a form of identity and this simplistic label allows for the owner of the keys to know that they are theirs. I have also seen these used on suitcases, this photograph of which was a new label which was for the purpose of a suitcase.
This key ring is my own and is used to personalise my horse riding equipment box as my own (identity). In terms of key rings I think the ability to identify as a purpose is highly important.
Key rings are often bought to capture memories and as they can be made with low cost companies tend to use this idea as a selling point. The photograph key ring above shows a typical family memory at christmas.
This key ring is my grandmothers and I thought it fit her personality because she loves animals and supports a lot of charity work with donations. After speaking to her about the key ring and the reasons she showed me that she had a whole collection of them and that they were part of the brand identity of the brand "Kipling".
This is an example of the key rings mentioned above but purchased with a bag. These key rings can also be bought separately and new versions of these are released such as metal ones to be bought with more modern and colourful/ young designs.
Key rings are also bought as gifts and often for significant ages such as 18 and 21, being 18 myself I found that a lot of my friends and others my age had been given gifts of key rings with their age on.
As mentioned above I thought through investigation that key rings should be used for identity, I found other key rings that contained my name (when younger). As a selling point shops tend to use names on key rings to sell and people often receive these as gifts or buy them themselves to put a name on their own keys or possessions.
In my initial investigation into key rings I found that their were certain types, one of them being that key rings have another purpose than just hanging on keys, for instance this is a small flashlight/ torch.
Much like i mentioned above key rings can have other purposes and as an example I photographed a dog whistle. I found that many people who own dogs do have these on their keys therefore will always have this with them as an essential item, these are incredibly popular for those with working dogs.
These key rings are another example of how companies and businesses sell their brand or products by giving out key rings. I have found that through using these key rings on my families caravan keys it has sparked others to ask about the company and therefore leads to recommendations.
Pictured here is a repeated theory that was described above, this key is for an older car which contains its original key ring.
These keys and the key ring picture another source of key rings- this key ring states "Lanzarote" which is a popular holiday resort. People tend to buy key rings on holiday to remind themselves of memories.
Pictured here is a key ring from a school locker key (Catholic school) which contains a prayer printed onto the plastic. Key rings can also be used to express values or personal experiences which could include that of religion.
As mentioned above about the caravan keys, this photograph follows the same concept of business and the selling of a brand. However this Walker Farrimond key ring is mad out of metal rather than plastic and therefore appears to be more expensive/ sophisticated.
This key ring is an example of personal experiences/pride a lot of individuals buy key rings of their favourite sports team as a reflection of themselves or where they live such as a home football team.
Many key rings are bought as gifts much like this key ring photographed, it is crafted out of a beautiful shiny metal and the teddies limbs move which makes the gift incredibly well crafted and therefore more expensive than most key rings (usually plastic).
This key ring is also a gift and appears to be more expensive than most key rings as its material is quite shiny and black/silver. This was also given as a gift and includes the individuals name therefore making the gift personal and useful as a form of identity.
The lipgloss keyring photographed above enhanced the idea that key rings are not only for being aesthetically beautiful which is displayed in the feminine pink hearts but also within its function of a miniature lipgloss which is seen as rather useful for those who wear makeup.
Photographs collected from others:
I also asked for photographs from others in the class of their key rings to see what they have on their own.
