The current J20 packing is recognisable in the shop due to the brightly coloured bottles and its logo. However the colour green on the shelf tends to blend in with the other fruit drinks. The designs are quite playful and definitely appeal more to children than their competitors do within bars and supermarkets. This is mainly due to font choices and the colours used. The brief does state to keep the label sizes/shapes the same as they have been given and also the logo. However I am going to make a few slight adjustments to the logo so I can use it in different colour ways.
Competitors:
The shape of the bottle is incredibly elegant and different to others I have seen. This elegance and use of a simple and sophisticated font appeals to adults because it is minimal and isn't too busy. The design is printed directly onto the bottle which works quite well rather than having a large sticker or cover. The illustrations on the front also make the product appear to be natural and as the J20 brief suggests, pictures of fruit do enhance the idea of a natural fruit juice.
This design is similar to the above in that it is printed on the bottle rather than on a larger label. Printing on the bottle and this minimal design definitely appeals to adults more as it allows the product to show through. The whole design is also incredibly simplistic as it only has the logo and a photograph of the fruit therefore making it less busy and appear to be more sophisticated. Children tend to prefer brightly coloured and garish packaging which is extremely busy and fun.
These drinks are presented in both cans and bottles but I thought it would be interesting to see how they are packaged differently. The script font and pastel colours make them appear to be incredibly feminine however they are definitely aimed at adults as these fonts are more complex to read. The minimal colours and illustrations of fruit definitely allow them to stand out as the design is incredibly different to the others on the shelf.
This is one of my favourite designs as they are still brightly coloured and therefore fun but they have been created into a minimal label. By using black and white with a serif font these designs definitely appear to be more adult orientated as they appear more sophisticated.
Zeo's drinks are incredibly modern in their design through the use of minimal labels and a sans serif type which is in simple black and white with one colour to match the drink itself. These designs are stereotypically masculine due to the sharpness of the lines. Although these are great designs my J20 redesign needs to be more fun and playful than these strict minimalist lines/type.
