How to... stay creative- (Introduction brief/group work)

Format ideas

As a group we discussed the ideas of different formats for our ideas about how to relay this information about "how to stay creative".

We initially looked at the idea of creating posters with hand rendered illustrations and typography including the concepts of how to stay creative by visiting galleries for example. We were also going to include the idea of listening to music and listing places to visit to inspire creativity and maintain a creative mind. However this idea of illustration and hand rendered designs was dismissed because the group felt that vector designs on the mac (adobe illustrator) was more suitable to creative a simplistic design. If I had more time I would of wanted to create a small booklet which would include broader research and a range of different illustrations which would appeal to Graphic Design and art students because it would be visually interesting and quirky rather than simplistic.

This meant that as a group we created vector designs on illustrator which included a variety of ideas which we then made into a poster.

However after drafting this idea to critique of other students they agreed that this idea simply did not fit the brief because it did not provide information. This meant that as a group we began to draft ideas for postcards which would be given out at freshers fairs and in the library to new students who want inspiration. When looking at ideas for creativity we split the research into four clear categories which included "listen", "explore", "view" and "read".
This meant that the idea for titles matched the simplicity of the designs. The group also then removed the detail created in some of the designs created on illustrator.

From these beginnings of ideas (mock ups) we created four postcards with different colours to identify each as separate categories. In these designs we used bright colours instead of pastels to match the simplistic and modern look. We also used the fonts DENSE and FUTURA within our designs because it is a recognisable font and is also easily legible for reading information.

If I were to have more time and complete this brief myself I would of created a small booklet with hand rendered illustrations and typography explaining and being more informative about ideas and information which would benefit students. I would also of created an app or a website which would form as a blog of students work and inspiration that they find useful which would then work as a word of mouth system much like the Graphic Design and art community. This idea would benefit students by allowing them to be involved with artwork and designers as well as websites and sources of inspiration more easily than they have been used to before and would therefore solve this issue and allow students to be more confident in seeking their own inspiration and thrive to be positive and creative students.
