Baskerville is a transitional typeface which is incredibly readable especially at a small point size which is why it is used incredibly often within body copy of books and novels. I have read many books which have been written in Baskerville and have found it is easily read due to its dramatic difference in ascenders and descenders in comparison to perhaps a sans serif font such as helvetica which would be incredibly difficult to read in books/novels due to its consistency.
