OUGD403: Brief 5- Sketches & Ideas

These are my design boards which include initial sketches of ideas. These include solutions to a type poster including "for soup?" which questions the viewer on the simplicity of choices and how such an inhumane and dangerous industry such as shark finning can be justified for soup. I have also experimented with using fins as this is an iconic symbol used in films such as jaws to create fear, however in my image I have used this to change the perception and connotations of the fin. I have also experimented with the idea of dripping blood in both my imagery and typography however I feel it works better aesthetically with imagery. In the image (top right) I have drawn three sharks representing how sharks exist in the first image, the second is without it's fins and the third is just an outline which represents the idea that finning sharks will cause for not only the singular shark to die but also as a species. For my poster based on just image I have focused on the idea of a fin and used that as a form of symbolism, the film jaws is connected to the silhouette of a shark fin which most people then create a reaction to as fear, to put blood dripping down the fin this reverses the connotations of the idea of a predator and a killer to something much more innocent and vulnerable.
