OUGD503: Penguin

Other books which are similar and shown in the same area of interest:

Goodnight mister tom is actually advertised at the end of Carrie's War- it includes a small snippet of the book to make the reader want to buy this book too. The cover is brilliantly designed as it includes the title in large and hints of war such as the left hand side planes. The use of the colour blue makes the cover stand out with the silhouette and would definitely make a parent pick the book up, it seems friendly due to the type used.

Books featured on the inside and back cover of Carrie's War.

These books seem to stand out due to limited colour palettes, bold and large interesting type as well as imagery that links to the book. Carrie's War includes an illustration of the burning house however this somewhat ruins the plot of the book, perhaps it would be more interesting to use something else which represents the aura of the book and suggestion rather than presenting the end result.

Harry Potter is a great example of how the same book can be marketed to children and adults:

The photographic and realistic visual elements are used for adults as they are drawn towards more mature designs for their age group. However the designs for children are much softer and illustrative which pushes the idea of fantasy and adventure which children love, this therefore means that when considering my design I need to think about what children would like to see as well as the parents buying it for them.
