From looking at colour palette changes I decided upon using a wood looking rustic texture upon the sides of the website because it seems more "real" than a flat colour.
I also began adding the colour palette I chose as buttons for the website and changed the font to courier new, which resembles a typewriter and I think visually works much better because of the spacing and traditional aura that comes with typewriter fonts.
I also tried some different textures over the buttons and also the logo and felt that the use of a colour (same as button home) would break up the cream background.
I tried to use stitching on the buttons to make them look like a rosette or horse show ribbons but felt as though they looked better just plain.
Adding a texture to the buttons and logo makes the colours lighter and muter, therefore relating to the theme of rustic and countryside more.
This is the experiment for the homepage that I am most happy with and will show to the tutors tomorrow for advice on what to do with the layout and colours. I added a texture to the image in the centre as well as the other sections because I feel as though flat colours look too modern and shiny whereas the textures seem imperfect and somewhat rustic resembling stables/ yards and the countryside.
I entered the information from the previous grooming page and as you can see on the textured background the body copy is virtually impossible to read, therefore I will put a background behind it which is pale cream, therefore allowing the text to be read. I also need to adjust the header so it matches the buttons on the navigation.
I changed the header font to courier new like the buttons and put the corresponding colour behind it. I think it would be an interesting idea to have each page with a slightly different colour rather than having them all as light brown.
I experimented a few times with the layout and colour arrangements but felt as though by highlighting the images this makes them stands out more and definitely works in response to the feedback I was given. The image below pictures the content page I am also going to show as part of the tutorial.
After having a tutorial with Danny he suggested that I could move the navigation bar up to the top of the page, as well as add a header of wood which would match the sides of the website. He also stated that the design now is working much better than the one that I showed at the crit and agreed with me that the colours work so much better. I also decided upon changing the body copy underneath the images from 12 to 10 to allow for a more obvious information hierarchy on the page. After having the tutorial I am now feeling much more positive about my design as after leaving the crit I was unsure whether any of what I had done previously was suitable. I was pleased that I received more positive feedback this time and that by reacting to the comments at the crit I have been able to produce something more successful.
Danny also suggested a link (see below) for future projects as in the crit I received feedback about adding colour to the back of the images, this could work for another brief however I don't feel as though it is suitable for this current website.

I am much happier with this design after a few simple changes and will now transform the other pages by using this same colour palette and layout. Each of the pages has images which will have a softer version of the colour used on the navigation buttons.
