I went into a local supermarket to take some pictures and have a look at how alcohol is packaged on the whole.
When looking at the ales (above two images) I found that on the whole they tend to use serif fonts or fonts which are quite bold and include some form of crest or shield which can relate to the idea of history and heritage which comes with the idea of ales.
Crabbies' and Kopparberg cider use a similar layout for their logo which is quite common for alcoholic branding and I found that a lot of brands on the shelf looked quite similar in the shade and the layouts. For example on these two designs there is the logo type in the centre and imagery on the top. The logo's seem to be quite a strong and bold font with the flavour in a script and maybe it would be interesting to see the logo in a script rather than using a sans serif or serif.
I really love the flamboyant nature of the script font used on this Stella logo which is definitely representative of the flavour as it is quite elegant and feminine therefore appealing to a larger amount of women and people who wouldn't normally drink the original flavour.
The use of a hand rendered looking type and simplistic layout definitely works with this design as it incorporates factors of a traditional and local company but with more of a simplistic design which is quite different to the others I saw on the shelf and therefore stood out to me.
Brewdog is another brand of beer which the use colour bright colours for their beer bottles and I think the logo transfers really well onto different colours which is something I need to consider about my own logo, it needs to work in black and white.
