Questions when initially looking at websites: Task
Write down initial responses and answer....
1. Purpose of the website?
2. Who is the target audience?
3. Is the reaction intended?
The viewer of a website will decide if he/she wants to continue browsing in around three seconds, therefore first impressions of aesthetic and content are incredibly important.
Early Learning Centre:
Initial response: colourful, fun, clean, easy to read/legible.
1. Purpose is for people to buy toys for children.
2. The target audience is for parents with smaller children but this could also be for grandparents too.
3. The reaction is intended because the typefaces are easy to read for the parents because they are simple but are somewhat rounded and colourful so therefore give connotations of fun and a childlike nature therefore ensuring parents that the company is child orientated.
QVC:
Initial response: simple, products, selling, grid, changing images (captures attention).
1. Purpose is to sell products online.
2. Audience is people who want to buy products but particularly appeals to women and more of an elderly audience the type is definitely suitable.
3. The reaction is intended because it is designed for a particular audience.
4 MUSIC:
Initial response: busy, images, colourful, content, pink, shapes, celebrities.
1. Purpose is to inform people of music news.
2. Audience is teenagers of both genders but primarily young women.
3. The reaction is intended because it is aimed at young people so therefore contain lots of information and large images which capture attention.
Alexander McQueen:
Initial response: Clean, modern, classy, monochrome, classic, designer, up market, expensive.
1. Purpose is to sell clothing.
2. Audience is mainly young women and men who have a largely disposable income.
3. The reactions are intended as it is a high fashion brand and wants to show themselves as beautifully designed with a simple website which shows off its content.
Cbeebies:
Initial response: hectic, confusing, colourful, tacky, clashing, animation, fun.
1. Purpose is to entertain children.
2. Audience is for younger children of both male and female gender around the age of 3/4.
3. The responses are intended because it is for children and therefore shouldn't appeal to adults at all.
NOBROW:
Initial response: clean, simple, friendly, creative, books, reading, design.
1. Purpose is to sell books and comics.
2. Audience is young professionals with a disposable income who would buy products but also parents due to the childish illustration of Hilda.
3. The design and responses are intended because it is intended for creative people and those with children.
Nikon:
Initial response: yellow, colourful, simple, cameras, image, photos.
1. Purpose is to sell cameras and give information.
2. Audience is people who want to purchase a camera but also learn about tips.
3. Response is intended because Nikon want the information shown in a simple way to enhance the focus on the products (cameras).
