OUGD404: Type Journal

Signage (Howarth)

This sign was fastened onto a bike and was in fact hand rendered, this matched the overall aesthetics of the shop with its hand crafted feel and small size.

The typography on this sign is a rather strong serif which very much resembles Victorian type. As a whole this shop does want to keep this historical element as they sell considered and "romanticised" items such as soaps, perfumes.
See below for website:
This continues the feminine and quirky feel of the shop through its type (script fonts) and choice of colours (pastels).

The bright colours and use of a script for the the type within the window resembles the shops branding for being quirky and feminine. The shop sells a wide variety of textiles and therefore this is also shown in its use of type. The script font they used portrays a flamboyant and quirky personality, if a sans serif font was used in this circumstance the shop wouldn't have the same "personality".

The type used for this café is quite playful and childlike which matches its intentions as an artful café. The type suits its intentions as a 'fun' and informal due to it looking 'hand rendered' but in fact it is computer generated.
